Scorpio Cocktail
Happy Birthday Scorpio, the most intense sign in the zodiac. You might be thinking there are plenty of intense people out there that aren’t Scorpios, but I tell you that no one does intensity like Scorpio. Perhaps you know one of these intense non-Scorpions? Well, I’ll bet they have Scorpio very strongly in a different part of their chart. For example, I had no idea that more than half my planets were in Scorpio until I had my chart cast. As a Sun Sign Cappie, this was a shocker. Why not put a professionally done birth chart on your Christmas list? Cost: priceless!
Famous Scorpios include Kris Kardashian & Bruce Jenner, Laura Bush, Manolo Blahnik, Calvin Klein, Anne Hathaway, Meg Ryan, Avril Lavigne, Annie Lennox, Demi Moore, Puff Daddy, Bjork, Hillary Clinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Schwimmer, Lisa Bonet, Prince Charles, Bo Derek, Jodie Foster, Larry King, Calista Flockhart, Nick Lachey, Adam Ant, Bill Gates, and Keith Urban.
The latter seemed like an unlikely Scorpio until I dug a little deeper. The number one giveaway was his perfume: Phoenix by Keith Urban. Scorpio symbolizes not only the Snake but the Eagle and Phoenix too. Scorpio is known for its destructive capabilities and its equally powerful ability to heal the destruction. How fitting that Superstorm Sandy happened during Scorpio. The legend of the phoenix is that of the firebird born from the ashes of death. Phoenix is the perfect name for a perfume by Scorpio.
And every Scorpio worth his stinger has at least one demon to kick. Mr. Urban is no exception. He finally curbed his alcoholism in 2007, and consequently wrote the song, “Thank You,” to his wife Nicole for helping him through it. Their two children are named Sunday and Faith. Keith croons that “Life is about holding on and letting go.” Clearly, Keith has lived to tell. His battle scars define the character of an evolved Scorpio… a true gift to the world. (P.S. An unevolved Scorpio is something you don’t want to encounter.) Keith’s moral fiber was molded by the farm he grew up on and the chores he grew up doing. His alleged pet peeve is people who don’t look you in the eye when they shake your hand… So Scorpio! This guy’s deep. And it’s this very depth that will bring a welcome voice of reality to break up the diva’s banter on this season’s American Idol.
Keith’s been unleashing that famous Scorpionic intensity on the music industry since he practically popped out of the womb. He received his first musical instrument at age 4, learned to play at 6, started performing at 8, and winning shows shortly thereafter. By age 24 he had four #1’s in Australia. He’s now had 14 #1’s in the USA and this April was the first Australian to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. He plays 11 different instruments.
A low-key guy, Keith is not one for star-studded parties and glitzy glam. In that respect, he is your typical, very private, Scorpio. When it comes to small talk and hot air… count Scorpio out. They do best speaking or singing, their truth–to one person or one crowd at a time. Generally speaking, Scorpio’s don’t do fake well. But as I’m sure this Scorpio can attest, they tend to drink well.
Chili pepper is ruled by Mars, the ancient ruler of Scorpio, now considered co-ruled by Pluto. Mars rules over foods that are very spicy or tart, red in color, have particularly piquant flavors or energy-enhancing properties. This of course, is all based on Medieval Herbal Astrology!
Urban Phoenix:
(Out of respect for Keith, feel free to omit the booze)
- 2 oz gold tequila
- 1 cup with Mexican Drinking Chocolate*
- dried chili arbols or substitute any spicy chili
Pour 2 oz tequila in bottom of mug. Fill with 1 cup piping hot Mexican drinking chocolate. Garnish with a dried chili arbol (use the one you cooked).
*Mexican Drinking Chocolate: Heat 1 chili arbol, 1/2 tablet Mexican drinking chocolate, 2 c milk (I prefer coconut milk). Be sure to mash the chocolate completely and whisk. Be sure to taste periodically during the heating process and remove chili when the spice reaches an acceptable level. The drink will be ruined if it’s too spicy!
*** Find Chili arbols, plus Abuelita and Ibarra chocolate at a Mexican grocer. Taza chocolate is the ABSOLUTE BEST, and may be found in gourmet stores or online.
