Teaching Kids Biblical Humility

in

Children should be taught the concept of humility from the Bible’s point of view. Children should be taught that Jesus Christ humbled himself when he agreed to be the sacrifice for our sins. The holy son of God allowed himself to be beaten and crucified to pay the penalty for the sins of mankind. However, Jesus knew exactly who he was. Jesus chose to humble himself on our behalf.

Teaching Humility to Children

Humility means that you are willing to waive your rights and take a lower place or status than maybe your due. Teaching humility to children is a valuable and inherent concept for children to learn.

The Bible states in the book of Philippians 2:3: “do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceits. Rather in humility, value others above yourself”. This lesson in the Bible teaches kids that selflessness is a characteristic of Jesus Christ. The Bible also states in the book of 1 Peter 5:5,”Be clothed with humility, for God resist the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

These lessons will inform children that practicing humility is a noble characteristic and will enable them to treat other children with love and respect. Children can practice the concepts of humility found in these scriptures, while at play on the playground, in the classroom and with their friends and siblings.

Humility will enable a child to avoid ridicule and disgrace and teasing and taunting by other children because the child knows who they are. Humility is not a sign of weakness, but rather a hallmark of healthy self-esteem. If more children learned the concept of humility, bullying would vanish from schools and children could live in peace and harmony with other children.

Embracing Humility for Children

Embracing humility for children requires patience, grace and an understanding of who they are. Indeed they are the children of God! Why wouldn’t a child want to inherit the characteristics of their loving and caring father? Teaching a child to embrace humility will help a child to attain one of the characteristics of Jesus Christ.

A Bible study for children illuminating and illustrating the characteristic of humility would be a great advantage to our children. What would Jesus do? The Bible says he humbled himself and sacrificed himself for the sins of the world.  Therefore, a child can be taught a simple gesture, such as allowing another child to go before him in a line.
